Jeff Miller’s writing is always flush with sincerity, ardour, and zest for life, but BOYS is an especially open-hearted work of writing, in which Jeff pays tribute not just to his teenage friendships and the excitement of being kids playing punk shows together, but also the joys of growing older with friends, changing and staying the same, and savouring shared histories. The second half of the zine is an exceptionally beautiful tribute to Will Munro, the artist, party organizer, and beloved friend of the author who died much too young of complications from brain cancer.
Recommended for anyone looking to heal their relationship to masculinity, older punks nostalgic for the first flush of joy that comes with realizing you can make zines and play in bands, and anyone who loves their friends so, so, so, so much.
BOYS was originally published in 2014 as issue #13 of Ghost Pine. It was reissued in 2026 by Sheer Spite Press since it’s one of our favourite zines of all time and we have spent the past decade recommending it enthusiastically to people who had no way of acquiring copies.
