Description
In this zine, Imogen Reid, author of Accept Yourself or Die: From Mormon Missionary to Trans Punk, Nine Zines on Grief, and What the Fuck is Fentanyl? walks through the circumstances in her life that made drugs a compelling option for surviving otherwise unbearable pain.
Imogen describes how she got from being what she calls “a collection of traumas and ghosts and raw nerves formed into the shape of a human,” to being in recovery, while fiercely opposing simplistic narratives of sobriety that demonize people who use. A self-described “drug nerd”, she has a deep fascination for the cultural history of drugs, and the way they operate as metaphors, morality tales, and tools to enforce social hierarchies.
