We have a really thrilling spring lineup of new publications for you:
I’ll talk more about each of these below, but I wanted to first let you know that from May 9 to June 19, the store will be closed for mail orders, although you’ll still be able to buy digital zines. (this is because I will be away in Europe doing zine biz, which I will also detail below!)
Nine Zines on Grief, by Imogen Reid
From Imogen Reid, author of Sheer Spite Press’ Accept Yourself Or Die: From Mormon Missonary to Trans Punk, a collection of nine beautiful, deeply felt mini-zines on grief.
The zines explore her history with loss, from losing her mother as a teenager to losing friends to overdose and suicide as an adult. They both tell and show how grief feels from the inside: vivid, harsh, and consuming.
Combining writing with illustration and collage, these zines evoke the work of artists like David Wojnarowicz who mobilize grief as a political tool, while never losing sight of how it feels on a deeply personal level.
- Nine Zines on Grief, Imogen Reid (print version: nine 4″ x 2″ eight-page mini-zines, two-colour risograph printed in Montreal by No Gloss.)
- Nine Zines on Grief, Imogen Reid (digital versions to read on screen and to print at home)
in the graine: migraine, ableism, care, by reed floarea
Living with migraine puts you at odds with our overstimulating, productivity-obsessed world. Learning to be kind to yourself involves both practical knowledge about mitigating symptoms, and a deeply political re-orientation to life, work, and self-worth. This zine offers a disability-justice-oriented approach to migraine that weaves together both the practical and the political.
- in the graine: migraine, ableism, care – by reed floarea (print: 132 pages, half-letter size, saddle-stitched (stapled). Laid out in 16-pt Atkinson Hyperlegible on grey paper to reduce contrast to improve accessibility for readers with migraine. The cover is risograph-printed by No Gloss in Montreal.)
- in the graine: migraine, ableism, care – by reed floarea (digital: several different colour combinations selected for migraine-friendliness)
Our Fantasies: An Anthology of Daydreams
We asked people to share what they daydream about, whether it was mundane or fantastical, possible or impossible. The result is an anthology of short writing by over 70 authors, plus several illustrations.
From cozy dream homes, to making out in an alley after a protest, to abolishing capitalism this collection represents fantasies that range from mundane to sexy to violent, but always vulnerable and illuminating.
We hope it will help you put words to your own longings.
- Our Fantasies: An Anthology of Daydreams (print – quarter-letter, saddle-stitched (stapled), black and white, 100 pages. )
- Our Fantasies: An Anthology of Daydreams (digital download of versions set up to print at home, and to read on screen)
This is not published by Sheer Spite, but I contributed to it and I’m thrilled to be able to distribute it too!
Anarchist Compass: 29 Offerings for Navigating Christofascism, edited by Cindy Barukh Milstein
“We can barely keep up with the onslaught of horrific news and losses, much less process them. We can barely keep up with each new twist and turn of the authoritarian knife, much less muster the capacity to fight all of its brutal manifestations…
So I put out word in anarchist circles, asking for short and personal thoughts related to these questions: What’s helping you find direction and/or heart these days? What ethical compass keeps you steadily steering toward freedom for all, particularly given all the sociopolitical pressure to abandon that path? What polestar aids you in determining what practices to embrace while fighting and/or surviving fascism, especially in collective ways? Where do you find inspiration at the moment?”

In case you missed it:
I was so thrilled to be able to put out Joseph Kapita Anyangya’s Journey of a Speechless Man last month!
Defying simplistic narratives about immigration and refugeeship, this thoughtful memoir explores topics including anti-Black racism in Canada, the exploitation of refugees’ hopes, and solidarity between refugees and First Nations people.
European tour:
The reason the store will be closed for mail order for a while this spring is that I’m going on book tour in Europe! I’m looking forward to tabling at:
and hopefully meeting lots of nice people and getting these beautiful zines into some euro bookstores!
